Groundbreaking

On April 23, Village President Karen Darch, Barrington elected officials and staff welcomed local, county, state and federal leaders to break ground on the U.S. Route 14 Underpass Project, commemorating the official start of construction near the Canadian National Railway tracks.
This transformative infrastructure project will make it safer, faster and easier to get around our Village—for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians and emergency responders alike.
Why this project matters:
- Eliminates long delays at one of the region’s busiest at grade rail crossings
- Improves safety for all modes of travel
- Ensures a consistent and dependable access route to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital
The groundbreaking event brought together a strong show of support, including State Senator Darby Hills, Cook County Commissioner Kevin B. Morrison and many other community leaders, engineers and project partners—like Erin Aleman (Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning), Issam Rayyan (Illinois Department of Transportation) and Jose Rios (IDOT).
